Recently I consulted with a close friend who underwent a procedure referred to as psychic surgery. I knew where the conversation was going, but I allowed her to explain in detail how her "practitioner" accomplished this great feat. For those of you who have never heard of this, it is easily summed in one word-SCAM.There are different variations, but in general you are placed on a table and told to uncover the stomach area. As the "healer" walks about describing to you what they are going to do, they show you that there is nothing in their hands. Your stomach is cleaned with an antiseptic and you begun to feel major pressure from the practitioner as they press and twist their fingertips into the abdominal area. The show begins to get a little bloody and suddenly they start to pull out a mass of tissue that resembles a worm or snake. You are shown the item as proof of the evil entities that took residence in your body. After you are wiped clean, there are no signs of any cuts, wounds, or reminders of the surgery that has taken place. The results are amazing. What most people fail to realize is that this is parlor trick employing a sleight of hand.
A small translucent bag containing animal tissue is hidden in a very accessible area then slipped into palm of the hand. The bag is squeezed until it bursts and the tissue is slowly removed as if it is coming from your body. You may feel better, but its only a placebo effect. You have been duped by a con artist pretending to be a spiritual healer. Unfortunately this technique is usually ended when the practitioner asks for payment or informs you that you must allow him/her to to destroy all your financial wealth so that you can be in peace eternally.
