What is a Horoscope?

Your horoscope is based on the alignment of the planets in connection with your birth date, birth time, and birth place. Although the sun, moon, and associated angles are used to compile an accurate horoscope, they are usually left out of your astrological report to diminish confusion.
In western astrology 12 zodiac signs are used in general. These signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. An astrologer uses a book or astrological program to provide general personality attributes but must use their own skills based on what they have observed during certain celestial events.
One of the biggest horoscope misconceptions is related to mercury retrograde. Each year the planet Mercury orbits the sun at a slower rate than usual. In turn this creates an illusion that the planet is moving backwards. Over time astrologers have noticed that communication seems to slow down and technology seems to malfunction during this period. This does not mean that you have to go into hiding, it just means that you need to be more of aware of your environment and conscientious of what you do. Most people, including inexperienced astrologers, do not realize that this period is shaped by your zodiac sign and not set in stone.
