Chakras

Last night I saw a teaser for a new television show. During the brief commercial, a patient tells her therapist that when she awoke, her chakras were completely black. Since she does not play around with her health, she called her psychic right away. I almost hit the floor in laughter. My funny bone was not tickled by what she saw or what she did, but it was the baseless fear rooted in ignorance. After viewing this, I felt that it was of the utmost importance that I write a brief summary of what the chakras are and how they apply to every day living.
Your chakra receives, absorbs, and expresses your life force energy. This energy may be positive, negative or somewhere in between. Although there are several different models that represent the chakras, I will describe the version that I feel applies to most people. Twenty two chakras exist within our bodies: six emotional, seven mental and nine spiritual. Of these, there are 7 primary pathways which allow energy flow. Because the body functions as a unit and not individual parts, we find that the chakras work simultaneously in keeping our life force ever present. Each path way is represented by a different color that describes a certain idea or emotion. For example, the third eye chakra is indigo. This color represents intuition and concentration. As your experiences, thoughts, and moods change, so will the color of your chakra. Through meditation, exercise, massage and many other techniques we are able to control our inner energy to maintain spiritual balance.
Don't let any one fool you. Studying and understanding the nature of chakras will take time and patience. There are many different models and versions based on cultural differences. However take time time to seek reputable sources through books, the internet, and knowledgeable people. I don't want to spoil your surprise, but look up the meaning of a black chakra. I feel that either the television producers of the new show have been misinformed or they are showing the ignorance that is perpetuated in society these days.
